Zverev, the tournament’s second seed, displayed his power by serving an impressive eight aces in the opening set.
As the men’s tournament progresses, the last quarter-final is underway, with Zverev aiming to avenge his recent defeat to Cobolli in Munich.
Meanwhile, in the women’s draw, Mirra Andreeva has already secured her place in the final by defeating Hailey Baptiste 6-4, 7-6(8).
Andreeva, the ninth seed, reached her first final in Madrid, overcoming Baptiste in a match that lasted under two hours.
With this victory, Andreeva is aiming for her third WTA 1000 title and her sixth overall, having lost only once in her six previous Tour finals.
Baptiste’s run in Madrid ends here after her impressive upset of top seed Aryna Sabalenka in the previous round.
Andreeva will now await the winner of the semi-final clash between Marta Kostyuk and Anastasia Potapova, scheduled to begin at 21:30 CET.
Before this, Zverev and Cobolli’s match started at 20:00 CET, with the winner set to face Alexander Blockx in the men’s final.
