Independiente Rivadavia Defeats La Guaira 4-2 in Libertadores

Independiente Rivadavia defeated Deportivo La Guaira 4-2 on Thursday, extending their unbeaten streak in the Copa Libertadores.

The match was held at the Estadio Olímpico de Caracas, where Alex Arce scored a hat-trick, and Sebastián Villa added another goal.

Villa assisted Arce in the 20th minute and scored his own goal with a volley in the 34th minute.

This victory solidifies Independiente Rivadavia’s position as the leader of Group C after securing their spot in the round of 16 in the previous match.

Currently, Independiente Rivadavia has four wins in their international debut, accumulating 13 points.

In contrast, La Guaira remains at the bottom of the group with three points, two points behind Bolívar and Fluminense.

As the final round approaches next week, teams such as Flamengo and Corinthians have already advanced to the knockout stage.

After the break for the World Cup, the Libertadores will resume with the start of the knockout rounds in mid-August.

Independiente Rivadavia opened the scoring with a precise cross from Villa, which Arce converted with a header.

La Guaira briefly equalized in the 29th minute with a goal from Diego Osío, but Villa quickly restored the lead with a first-time shot following a pass from Matías Fernández.

Villa has been included in the preliminary list of 55 players for the Colombian national team as they prepare for the World Cup in Mexico, the U.S., and Canada.

Independiente Rivadavia secured their win in the second half with two more goals from Arce, who now leads the tournament’s scoring chart with eight goals.

Under the management of Alfredo Berti, Independiente Rivadavia has scored a total of 12 goals in five matches, making them the top scorers in the competition.

La Guaira managed to reduce the deficit to 4-2 with a free-kick from Juan Castellanos in the closing minutes.
