Triathlete Mara Flávia Drowns During Ironman Texas Swim

Brazilian triathlete and influencer Mara Flávia, 38, drowned during the swim portion of the Ironman Texas event on April 18.

Brazilian triathlete Mara Flávia drowned during a Texas Ironman event on Saturday, April 18. The 38-year-old fitness influencer died in the swim portion of the Ironman Texas triathlon. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the drowning in The Woodlands.

The incident occurred in Lake Woodlands near North Shore Park. Fellow competitors and lifeguards attempted to rescue Flávia during the event. Her body was later recovered by a dive team from the Woodlands Fire Department.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office issued a news release on Facebook. It confirmed a participant had drowned during the triathlon. The sheriff’s office expressed deepest sympathy to the family and friends.

Major Crimes detectives are investigating the drowning per normal protocols. Authorities did not initially reveal the victim’s identity. Brazilian news outlets O Globo and O Dia identified her as Mara Flávia.

Ironman Texas also confirmed the death in a Facebook statement. The organization said it was saddened by the participant’s death. It offered deepest sympathies and support to the family.

The statement expressed gratitude to the first responders for their assistance. The swim portion was where the drowning occurred. The event took place in The Woodlands, Texas.

Mara Flávia was a journalist-turned-athlete with a significant online following. She had 60,700 followers on Instagram. Flávia documented her sporting journey on the platform.
