Liv Morgan won the WWE Women’s World Championship at WrestleMania 42. She defeated champion Stephanie Vaquer on Saturday night. The event took place at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
The match was the penultimate contest of Night 1. It lasted less than seven minutes. The action began quickly between the two wrestlers.
Morgan landed an early springboard sunset-flip powerbomb. She then performed a move called the Three Amigos. Vaquer responded with a Devil’s Kiss and a suplex-codebreaker.
Morgan later hit a Backstabber on Vaquer. She then teased using Vaquer’s Devil’s Kiss move. Vaquer countered with a nasty backbreaker after a roll-up pin attempt.
The champion Vaquer then landed her own finishing move, Oblivion. This set up her Corkscrew Splash finisher, Vaquer’s Inferno. Roxanne Perez and Raquel Rodriguez then interfered in the match.
Perez and Rodriguez are members of The Judgment Day faction. Their interference helped Morgan hit an Oblivion on Vaquer. Vaquer survived the initial pinfall attempt from that move.
Morgan screamed in frustration after Vaquer kicked out. Vaquer fought off Judgment Day members on the ring apron. This led to Morgan accidentally diving onto Rodriguez outside the ring.
Vaquer then hit a springboard cross-body onto both opponents outside. Morgan fought back and landed a diving Codebreaker. She followed with another Oblivion to win the championship.
The Judgment Day celebrated their superior position after the match. Dominik Mysterio came out to celebrate with the group. Mysterio is scheduled to wrestle Finn Balor on Night 2.
JD McDonagh and Finn Balor were not present for the celebration. Stephanie Vaquer must now regroup after her loss. She was competing in her first WrestleMania event.
