Chennai Super Kings (CSK) secured an eight-wicket victory over Mumbai Indians (MI) in their opening match of IPL 2026 ‘Revenge Week’ on May 3, 2026.

The victory, held at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium, put MI’s playoff hopes in jeopardy.

After a strong start, MI slumped from their promising position, scoring just 159/7. Naman Dhir was the top-scorer with 57 runs.

Despite having a strong base, MI’s middle order failed to capitalize on their opportunities. CSK’s bowling attack was led by Anshul Kamboj, who took three wickets for 32 runs.

Noor Ahmad and Jamie Overton also exerted consistent pressure in the middle overs. CSK responded well to the target of 160 overs.

CSK comfortably achieved their target, thanks to an unbeaten 67-run contribution from captain Ruturaj Gaikwad and 54 runs from Kartik Sharma.

This victory not only completed two wins against their arch-rivals but also significantly boosted MI’s playoff hopes.

Jamie Overton praised the incredible atmosphere at Chepauk, stating, “The Chepauk crowd was almost louder than a Premier League match.”

Overton felt confident after securing two points against a very strong MI side. He recalled his first experience at Chepauk last year.

“They were one of the best crowds; they followed us everywhere,” Overton added.

CSK are now optimistic about a top-four finish. They had struggled earlier in the season with poor batsman form.

Now, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Sanju Samson are starting to find their rhythm again. CSK’s bowling unit has also received a significant boost from Jamie Overton’s performance.

CSK are ready to face Lucknow Super Giants, who are currently bottom of the table. However, the match against Delhi Capitals could be a decider for them.
