Mirra Andreeva is set to battle Hailey Baptiste in the semifinals of the Mutua Madrid Open, both vying for their first final at La Caja Mágica.
This semifinal comes after a tournament filled with surprises, as Andreeva takes on Baptiste to conclude the day session on Thursday.
Marta Kostyuk will face lucky loser Anastasia Potapova in the night session at Estadio Manolo Santana, where all four semifinalists are eager to make history.
Andreeva leads their head-to-head 1-0, with their last meeting resulting in a 6-1, 6-3 victory for her at the 2025 Wimbledon third round.
Baptiste’s remarkable journey included a comeback win over World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka, where she saved six match points, triumphing 2-6, 6-2, 7-6 (6).
“This tournament has been a bit of a revenge tour,” Baptiste remarked, looking to avenge her previous loss to Andreeva.
In Madrid, Baptiste has reached the semifinals of a WTA 1000 for the first time and is the lowest-ranked player to achieve a comeback win against a World No. 1 on clay in the last 40 years.
Her previous best was reaching the semifinals in Abu Dhabi earlier this year, marking a significant milestone in her career.
Kostyuk also continues her strong performance, remaining undefeated in her clay season with a quarterfinal win in Madrid.
“Somebody else that I played before and lost to. A little bit of a revenge tour, I guess,” Baptiste said of her upcoming match against Andreeva.
With both players eager to secure their place in the final, the stakes are high as they prepare to face off.
The semifinals will take place on Thursday, with Andreeva vs. Baptiste at 4:00 p.m. and Kostyuk vs. Potapova at 9:30 p.m.
