Apple Abandons Vision Pro After M5 Model’s Poor Sales

Apple has largely given up on Vision Pro after the M5 model failed to attract interest, selling only 600,000 units since launch.

Apple has almost entirely abandoned the Vision Pro following disappointing sales of the M5 model. The M5 refresh, which was launched in October 2025 with a faster chip and improved comfort, failed to revitalize consumer interest.

Despite the updates, including a 120Hz refresh rate and 10% more rendered pixels, the Vision Pro remains unpopular. With a price tag of $3,499 and a weight over 1.3 pounds, many users found it uncomfortable for extended use.

Insider sources revealed that Apple has seen a high rate of returns on the Vision Pro, exceeding returns for any other recent products. Approximately 600,000 units have been sold since its initial launch, and the device has faced ongoing criticism for its price and weight.

Following these developments, Apple has reportedly stopped work on the Vision Pro. The Vision Pro team has been reassigned, with some members now working on Siri, which is led by Vision Pro chief Mike Rockwell since March 2025.

There have been varied rumors about a potential successor to the Vision Pro, with speculation about a lighter and cheaper model named Vision Air. However, this project was halted last year.

Currently, Apple does not plan to launch a new model of the Vision Pro. Instead, the company is focusing on developing smart glasses that will incorporate augmented reality capabilities.

The first version of these smart glasses will resemble Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, equipped with AI but lacking an integrated display. Apple’s Vision Pro technology has not been usable in these new smart glasses due to power constraints.
