The Social Security Administration has confirmed that Supplemental Security Income (SSI) checks for May 2026 are scheduled to be issued on May 1.

Typically, SSI payments are distributed on the first day of each month. However, payments may be issued earlier when the first day falls on a weekend or holiday.

In May 2026, the first day of the month is a Friday, allowing payments to go out as planned on that date.

This marks the continuation of four consecutive months in which SSI checks will be distributed at the start of the month.

Looking ahead, SSI checks for August will be issued early on July 31, 2026, because August 1 is a Saturday.

According to the SSA calendar, the SSI payment schedule for 2026 includes the following dates:

Friday, May 1, 2026 (Check for May 2026)

Monday, June 1, 2026 (Check for June 2026)

Wednesday, July 1, 2026 (Check for July 2026)

Friday, July 31, 2026 (Check for August 2026)

Tuesday, September 1, 2026 (Check for September 2026)

Thursday, October 1, 2026 (Check for October 2026)

Friday, October 30, 2026 (Check for November 2026)

Tuesday, December 1, 2026 (Check for December 2026)

Thursday, December 31, 2026 (Check for January 2027)

Supplemental Security Income, or SSI, provides benefits to individuals with limited income, those aged 65 and older, and individuals who are blind or have a qualifying disability.

Children with qualifying disabilities are also eligible for SSI benefits, as outlined by the SSA.

Adults earning more than $2,073 from work monthly typically do not qualify for benefits.

Currently, nearly 7.4 million Americans receive monthly SSI payments, with about one-third of recipients also receiving Social Security benefits.

To check eligibility for SSI, individuals can visit the Social Security website or contact their local Social Security office. They can also call 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778) during workweek hours.
