Alex Cora, recently dismissed as the manager of the Boston Red Sox, sent a mass email to the organization expressing his gratitude for the opportunity to be part of the team.
Cora, who was fired alongside five other coaches, stated, “Being part of this organization has meant a great deal to me. As a player and as a manager.” He also noted the unique and magical experience of coaching in Boston.
In the email, Cora thanked the staff for their respect and support, saying, “Thank you for treating me with respect and most importantly accept me as AC. I’m grateful for this experience, it made me better.”
Despite his dismissal, Cora reflected positively on his time with the Red Sox, where he coached for nearly a decade and also played.
He expressed disappointment at not finishing the job, stating, “We are happy to have the time to be full-time parents, that’s the truth, but also we are disappointed that we didn’t finish the job.”
Cora acknowledged the direction the organization is taking, expressing confidence in the talent of his former colleagues: “A lot of talented people will help to accomplish the ultimate goal, having another duck boat parade.”
He concluded with a call to action for the staff, saying, “One last thing, keep showing up every day and don’t take the Fenway experience for granted, your working place is the best in the world.”
Following his firing, Cora expressed his relief, texting reporters, “I’m happy,” and sharing moments with his staff on social media.
His farewell email underscores a deep connection with the Red Sox organization and the iconic Fenway Park.
