John Herdman Calls 23 Players for Indonesia National Team Camp

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia’s national team coach John Herdman has officially called 23 players for a training camp in Jakarta from May 26 to May 30.

The training camp will encompass five days of intensive training sessions and internal matches as part of the coaching staff’s evaluation process, according to an official statement from PSSI on Tuesday.

This training camp is crucial for Indonesia’s preparations for the ASEAN Cup 2026, scheduled from July 24 to August 26.

The squad includes predominantly local players such as Marselino Ferdinan, Witan Sulaeman, and Muhammad Riyandi.

Indonesia, which has never won the tournament and has been a runner-up six times, is placed in Group A alongside Vietnam, Singapore, Cambodia, and the playoff winner, either Brunei Darussalam or Timor Leste.

Players who excel during the training camp will have the opportunity to secure a spot in the final ASEAN Cup squad and may also be considered for the FIFA Matchday agenda in June 2026, where Indonesia will face Oman on June 5 in Jakarta.

Herdman emphasized the significance of the ASEAN Cup, stating that it is not part of the FIFA match calendar, making it an important moment for local Indonesian players to showcase their skills.

He stated, ‘As head coach and coaching staff, we have watched many matches this season and gained insights into the potential of domestic players. This is an important moment for players to demonstrate their quality and secure a place in the ASEAN Cup squad.’

Dewa United Banten FC contributes the most players, with four representatives: Brian Fatari, Wahyu Prasetyo, Egy Maulana Vikri, and Ricky Kambuaya.

Persija Jakarta also has four players in the camp: Fajar Fathurrahman, Shayne Pattynama, Witan Sulaeman, and Eksel Runtukahu.

Among the 23 players called up, most are new names not included in the squad for the FIFA Series 2026 last month, with only Cahya Supriadi, Nadeo Argawinata, and Jens Raven remaining from Herdman’s first two matches with the Garuda team.
