Jessica Pegula is preparing to channel her momentum from Charleston as she heads to Madrid. She has been the third best player of the 2026 season. Pegula ranks fifth on the WTA rankings, following her recent victories.
After winning her second consecutive Credit One Charleston Open, Pegula expressed a desire for variety among competitors. She stated, “I think sometimes it can get kind of boring if you see the same players all the time.”
Pegula has achieved significant success this season, sitting behind Elena Rybakina and Aryna Sabalenka in the Race to Riyadh. She has reached the semifinals or better in seven of her last nine tournaments.
In her journey, Pegula also made it to the quarterfinals in the other two tournaments. While celebrating her Charleston win, she highlighted the strong competition in the current Top 10 of the WTA.
According to Pegula, the depth of talent is impressive, noting, “I think we have a really strong Top 5.” She will aim to carry this confidence and skill into the Madrid tournament.
