Asia Dozier, a former player for South Carolina women’s basketball, has accepted a coaching position at UNC-Asheville. Dozier will serve as an assistant coach for the Bulldogs, according to a school announcement.

Since her graduation, Dozier has been involved in coaching and scouting. Before joining UNC-Asheville, she worked with the Phantom Basketball Club at Unrivaled.

Dozier’s coaching career includes stints with the North Carolina A&T Aggies, Buffalo Bulls, and Florida Gators. Additionally, she had high school coaching roles at Cardinal Newman and Legion Collegiate Academy.

During her time at Cardinal Newman, Dozier won two state titles as head coach. Gamecock head coach Dawn Staley nicknamed her “The Coach,” reflecting her leadership qualities.

Dozier was a captain at USC and participated in the WBCA’s “So You Want to Be a Coach” program while in college. Although she didn’t have standout individual statistics, she played a crucial role in South Carolina’s rise in women’s basketball.

As a three-year starter and two-year captain, she contributed to three SEC regular-season championship teams and two SEC Tournament-winning squads. Her class, the 2016 graduating group, was the winningest in South Carolina women’s basketball history.

Dozier’s tenure at USC helped pave the way for the Gamecocks’ first national title during the 2016-2017 season. The team achieved an impressive record of 121-18 over her four seasons.

Additionally, Dozier attended Columbia’s Spring Valley High School. Her younger brother, PJ Dozier, played for the South Carolina men’s basketball team that reached the Final Four in the 2016-2017 season.

Asia Dozier’s family has a strong connection to the Gamecocks; both her father, Perry Dozier, and uncle, Terry Dozier, played for the team in the 1980s.
