Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev will meet in the final of the Mutua Madrid Open, having previously competed in four consecutive ATP Masters 1000 events. The match will take place on Sunday, no earlier than 5:00 PM CEST.

Sinner has the chance to become the first player to win five consecutive titles at this level, having won in Paris in 2025 and in Indian Wells, Miami, and Monte-Carlo this year. Zverev, who lost to Sinner in the semifinals at all three events, is aware of the challenge ahead.

“He’s the World No. 1 and hasn’t lost since the beginning of February,” Zverev said of Sinner, who is on a 22-match unbeaten streak. “Right now, he’s clearly the best player in the world. I’ll have to play very good tennis to have a chance. But I know I can do it and I’ll give my best on Sunday.”

While Sinner has shown remarkable consistency, Zverev has also been building on his impressive form. The German has reached at least the semifinals in six of his seven tournaments this season, ending his semi-final wait since Paris in November with a victory over 21-year-old Alexander Blockx.

However, history favors Sinner. The Italian has won his last eight meetings with Zverev, dating back to Cincinnati in 2024, and hasn’t dropped a set to him since the three-set Vienna final last October.

If Zverev wants to turn things around in Madrid, he’ll need to capitalize on the faster conditions. While Sinner has been a dominant force, history tells a different story for both players. Prior to this strong run, Sinner had never advanced beyond the quarterfinals in Madrid, while Zverev boasts a 30-6 record at the event.

Zverev has defeated many top players in Madrid, including former World No. 2 Rafael Nadal en route to the 2021 title. The conditions in Madrid have always favored Zverev. He won over 80 percent of his first-serve points in both the quarterfinal against Flavio Cobolli and the semifinal against Blockx – a level he will need to repeat or improve upon to trouble Sinner.

Meanwhile, Sinner will be looking to continue his impressive form in Madrid, where he will make history with a chance to win his fifth consecutive title.
