Portland Trail Blazers players praised acting head coach Tiago Splitter during exit interviews at Moda Center on Thursday.
Despite uncertainty about his future role, players expressed their support for Splitter’s performance this season.
Splitter indicated he expects to meet with general manager Joe Cronin and owner Tom Dundon regarding the coaching position.
“We’re gonna talk, I don’t know when,” Splitter said. “Of course, I told you guys I want to stay.”
He noted his relationship with Cronin and Dundon is strong, emphasizing the need for time to make decisions.
“A lot of what’s out there is exaggeration and clickbait,” Splitter added. “We just need some time now.”
Star guard Damian Lillard, the franchise’s all-time leading scorer, highlighted Splitter’s growth throughout the season.
“I thought he did well,” Lillard remarked. “Being launched into that seat as a head coach out of nowhere, unexpected — having to be a leader of men in this league is tough.”
Lillard credited Splitter for managing player personalities and rotations effectively during the season.
The Blazers concluded their season with a Game 5 loss to the San Antonio Spurs.
