Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced that 40 new jobs are coming to Lenawee County as part of an expansion project by Adrian Steel Company.

The Michigan Strategic Fund (MSF) Board approved plans for the company’s expansion in Adrian, according to a release from Whitmer’s office.

“Michigan is on the move and open for business, competing for and winning big projects in industries like steel manufacturing,” said Whitmer.

“Today’s announcement will create 40 good-paying jobs and cement Michigan as the best place to build the future.”

The MSF Board approved a $320,000 performance-based grant through the Michigan Business Development Program to support the expansion.

The expansion will feature a 112,000-square-foot addition to the existing facility, increasing space for raw material storage, cutting, forming, welding, painting, assembly, office functions, and shipping operations.

Over the next five years, this project is expected to create at least 40 new jobs, with a total investment of $43,453,278 from the company.

To facilitate this investment, the MSF Board also approved a five-year State Essential Services Assessment (SESA) to fully cover certain taxes.

The incentive is valued at up to $228,751 for $25,791,240 in eligible equipment and other personal property.

Additional tax relief will include a property tax abatement from the City of Adrian and a State Education Tax reduction approved by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation.

This expansion represents Adrian Steel’s largest investment since 1953, reflecting the company’s commitment to Michigan’s workforce and infrastructure.

Headquartered in Adrian, the company has become a national leader in automotive aftermarket equipment and cargo management solutions for skilled trades.

Adrian Steel’s investment underscores its long-standing ties to Michigan and its confidence in the state’s manufacturing future.

Officials noted that this expansion will not only benefit the local economy but also reinforce Adrian Steel’s role as a key player in the manufacturing sector.
