Vice President JD Vance’s visit to Iowa has been canceled, including a planned campaign event with U.S. Rep. Zach Nunn on April 30.
Vance was also scheduled to attend a Turning Point USA event at Iowa State University, which has now been called off.
Media reports indicate both events were canceled due to scheduling conflicts, with Nunn required for a House vote on the same day.
Nunn stated on Twitter that he is “fighting for the farm bill this week” and will host Vance in Iowa next week instead.
According to NBC Senior National Political Reporter Henry Gomez, the Turning Point USA event at Iowa State is also off.
The cancellation was confirmed by the Turning Point USA Tours Team, citing a scheduling conflict and the university’s inability to accommodate a rescheduled date.
The university noted that students are entering prep week and final exams, leading to the cancellation.
This decision is not related to security concerns, as per the message from Turning Point USA.
On April 25, a separate incident at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner saw the Secret Service subdue a gunman, leading to an evacuation of several officials, including Vance.
Turning Point USA plans to send the Iowa State chapter and local student volunteers to Washington, D.C., to meet with Vance soon.
The group expressed their commitment to returning for a college tour in Iowa during the upcoming fall semester.
In Des Moines, Vance attended a private fundraiser and roundtable as part of Trump’s 2024 campaign efforts.
Before running for office, Vance was the headline speaker at the Greater Des Moines Partnership’s annual dinner in 2019.
Vance is anticipated to be a top contender for a presidential run in 2028, making his Iowa visit significant.
