Severe Thunderstorms Hit Western Pennsylvania This Week

Western Pennsylvania experienced severe thunderstorms on Thursday, with tornado warnings issued for Indiana County. The storms are expected to clear within the next 40 minutes, alleviating the severe threat.

However, scattered showers will continue to impact the area for several hours. By approximately 8:00 PM, the rain should dissipate, bringing relief to residents facing harsh weather conditions.

The tornado warning previously in effect extended from Indiana down to the Route 22 corridor, affecting areas like Blairsville and portions of Chestnut and Laurel Ridges.

As the evening progresses, the heavy rain will lessen, transitioning to isolated showers as we head into Friday. Morning fog is anticipated, contributing to a cool end to the week.

Temperatures are forecasted to remain in the 50s on Thursday through Sunday, with chances for showers continuing over the next two days. By the weekend, the weather is expected to dry out, providing favorable conditions for events like marathons.

Looking ahead, temperatures will rise back into the 60s next week, with rain anticipated on Monday and Wednesday. Fortunately, no day in the upcoming week appears to be a complete washout compared to the current conditions.

By 5:00 PM, all storms should have moved through, leaving only scattered showers. The back edge of the rain is expected to reach western areas around 6:00 PM, clearing out by 8:00 or 9:00 PM tonight.

Patchy, dense fog may develop overnight, with isolated showers lingering into Friday. While the next day will not be a complete washout, a few showers may occur throughout the day.

Residents should prepare for a transition to cooler weather this weekend, with the chance for rain slowly tapering off.
