Mumbai Indians pacer Ashwani Kumar is preparing for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). The game is crucial as MI seeks to improve their position, currently ninth in the standings with only two wins from seven matches.
Ashwani spoke about his readiness to bowl with the new ball, a role currently occupied by notable bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult. He expressed his willingness, stating, “If I get a chance, I will do it (bowl with the new ball).” His experience this season has primarily been in the middle and death overs.
Working closely with pace bowling coach Lasith Malinga, Ashwani highlighted the focus on both mental aspects and technical skills. He noted that they are developing his yorker and slower deliveries, emphasizing, “He (Malinga) also talks to me mentally about how to handle the pressure.”
Since his debut last year, Ashwani has played nine matches for MI, securing 17 wickets with an average of 17.24. He has also achieved two four-wicket hauls. The upcoming match against SRH will be a test as they have shown strong performance, especially with captain Pat Cummins returning after the previous match against Rajasthan Royals.
The MI squad includes notable players like Quinton de Kock, Suryakumar Yadav, and Hardik Pandya. The team aims to capitalize on their training and insights from Malinga to secure a vital win against SRH.
