Sai Sudharsan, opener for the Gujarat Titans, highlighted the need for adaptability in T20 cricket. He spoke about this before the Titans’ match against the Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
Sudharsan, who recently scored a century against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, shared insights into his batting philosophy. He mentioned that he and teammate Shubman Gill are focusing on percentage cricket to give their team a strong foundation.
“As a team, me and Shubhi (Gill), we are focusing more on percentage cricket,” Sudharsan said. He added that they aim to provide a solid base for their teammates as they enter the game in the later overs.
He emphasized the evolving nature of T20 cricket, stating that batters must be versatile. “T20 is evolving and as batters, we’ll also have to evolve and be versatile enough for whatever comes in front of us at the situation,” he said.
Sudharsan stressed the importance of playing according to the situation rather than focusing solely on strike rates. He aims to adapt based on the conditions and the requirements of the game.
He also expressed his joy in returning to Chennai, sharing emotional memories associated with the venue. “I’m catching up with them (family and friends) after the game, but very, very grateful and happy to be back at Chepauk,” he said.
Sudharsan reflected on his early visits to the stadium, recalling his childhood dreams of playing there. “When I was very young, I came here and just watched the ground that ‘will I play in this ground?’”
Regarding the conditions in Chennai, he was unfazed by the heat. “It’s actually not so hot. It’s okay,” he noted, affirming their acclimatization through regular practice in similar conditions.
