Sabres goaltender Alex Lyon returned to practice on Saturday. He is expected to be available for Game 1. Lyon will likely serve as backup to Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen.
Forward Noah Ostlund also returned to practice on Saturday. He has not played since March 25. Coach Lindy Ruff said Ostlund is expected to play at some point in the series.
The rookie has not been officially ruled out for Game 1. The Sabres held a morning skate at 10:30 a.m. for potential lineup updates.
Saturday’s practice saw Josh Dunne centering the fourth line. He was between Jordan Greenway and Beck Malenstyn. Logan Stanley and Conor Timmins were the third defense pair.
Bruins coach Marco Sturm commented on his team’s style on Friday. He said, ‘We are bigger, stronger. We are more physical. We just have to be smart, but we’re gonna go after them.’
Sabres coach Lindy Ruff was asked about those comments on Saturday. He said, ‘That’s his take on his team. I have a lot of respect for what our team has done and how we play and the speed we play the game.’
Ruff added, ‘They’ve got a good team.’ Forwards Alex Tuch and Josh Doan were also asked about the Bruins’ comments. Their answers struck the same tone as Ruff’s.
The Sabres are confident in their roster and identity entering the playoffs. The team completed a regular-season turnaround. The series continues after tonight’s opening game.
