Mike Breen has called 20 consecutive NBA Finals since joining ESPN in 2006, showcasing remarkable consistency in sports broadcasting.

His ability to maintain the role has allowed him to become a prominent voice during these championship series.

In contrast, many legendary announcers like Marv Albert and Ian Eagle have not had the chance to call the Finals.

Kevin Harlan, also an esteemed play-by-play announcer, spoke about the unique nature of this situation in an interview on The Zach Lowe Show.

Harlan expressed that he and his peers support Breen, feeling a sense of shared experience through his calls.

“Because Mike has been this friend in the NBA for 30-plus years… I kind of feel like we’re there calling the Finals,” Harlan explained.

Harlan mentioned that Breen’s impressive record is unmatched, stating, “He’s covered this succession of Finals that will never be equaled again.”

Despite the competitive landscape of sports broadcasting, Harlan highlighted the camaraderie among announcers.

He noted that even though he personally may not call the NBA Finals, he finds joy in Breen’s performance.

“I’ve been with him on that journey… enjoy so much that he’s the one representing our group of broadcasters,” Harlan said.

Harlan, 65, has taken a step back from NBA assignments this season, allowing him to appreciate Breen’s contributions from a different perspective.

This season marks an exciting time for the NBA, with the Finals showcasing the pinnacle of basketball competition.
