Denver, CO hosted the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship this week. The event took place at Empower Field at Mile High with sunny skies and temperatures reaching 72 degrees Fahrenheit.
Today’s 450SX Class race was the highlight. Ken Roczen led the championship by four points over Hunter Lawrence before this crucial race.
Roczen needed more points to make Lawrence’s title chances even more difficult. If Roczen earned two more points, he could hold a six-point lead heading into the final race in Salt Lake City.
In the final race in Salt Lake City, Roczen could finish third and still win the title. He’s been in good form, so the chances of anything worse than third place seem slim.
Lawrence desperately needed a win tonight to stay in the title hunt. Back in contention, Eli Tomac was also in contention after missing the race due to a crash in Cleveland.
Tomac returned to racing in Denver and will likely have an impact on tonight’s race. Cooper Webb, while not in the title race, has shown strong form, finishing second in the last three races.
Justin Hill is also worth watching, as he trains at Wyoming’s altitude, and the conditions at Mile High should benefit him. In the 250SX Class, Haiden Deegan has already secured the championship.
Deegan was dominant before the break and is expected to take the win in tonight’s race. The battle for second place in the standings will also be interesting to watch.
